COG 103 - Women's History Month: Ten Generations

A PICTORIAL HISTORY
Ten Generations of Maternal Lineage

The Carnival of Genealogy (COG) traditionally honors women in March each year in conjunction with National Women's History Month. The submissions for this month's COG are to be of any subject we choose, presented in any fashion we choose, that will honor the women in our family or that honor women in general. I have chosen to honor pictorially the maternal line in my family. My thanks to Jasia of CREATIVEGENE for hosting this Carnival!

Starting with my only granddaughter, I follow the mothers of the mothers in my family to a total of ten generations. Of the last three photos, two are of tombstones and the last one is only a name and memorial.

  1. Love the pictures!! When I saw the 10 generations in the title I wondered how you would do that - I think I can go back about 6 if I start with my sister's daughter. I hadn't thought about using gravestones.

(And I'm thinking your daughter was probably born in 1980 vs 1880!! Can't count how many times I've done something like that as I'm more used to working in the 1800s)

  2. Lisa,
This is wonderful! 10 Generations! How many of them did you have to discover vs. ones that you knew about when you started genealogy? I'm going to have to think about how many generations of mothers I have at my fingertips.

  3. How fabulous to be able to do this for 10 generations, and to have pictures or at least tombstone pictures for almost every one is wonderful; a lot of resemblance, too, so there must be some strong genes at work!

  4. LOL! Good eye Diana! My husband was looking at it this morning and I was looking over his shoulder and saw that too! It has been fixed!!

Kathy, when I started genealogy I only knew my grandmother and had seen her mother and her grandmother's pictures but didn't really understand who they were.

Thank you both for your wonderful comments! This was fun and I've been wanting to show off my cutie pie granddaughter for a long time! :-D

  5. Greta, thanks! Actually after I had all these photos lined up like this was the first I'd ever really noticed how much resemblance there was from generation to generation.

  12. Lisa I love it! I have 6 generations of photos for my unbroken maternal line but I never thought to use photos of headstones. How deliciously clever!

  15. FABULOUS!! I might be able to pull off 8 generations using a headstone for the last one. To have 10 is wonderful!

  18. So grand! What a gift to have so many of pictures. I'm trying to figure out how I could do something similar - no way to take it so many generations, though.
