Margaret was my maternal grandaunt and mother of my cousins Jack and Neil Boyer. 

*Tombstone and Internet birth records show her birth year as 1905. Our family Bible states the year was 1904. Margaret's obituary and the 1910 census also indicate a birth year of 1904.

Amanuensis: A person employed to write what another dictates or to copy what has been written by another.

Margaret was the youngest child of Charles Lee and Ida May Trowbridge Newby and the little sister of my maternal grandmother, Mary Fern Newby Runyan. She married Joseph C. Boyer, son of Charles and Rosa Sidenspenner Boyer, on 15 January 1923 and they had 3 children: John Neil, Bernice Jean (died in infancy), and Jack Newby Boyer. It was devastating to the whole family when Margaret died of pneumonia at the age of 34.

Funeral Services To Be Held Friday Afternoon.

KNIGHTSTOWN, April 19 - Mrs. Margaret Boyer, 34, died last night at the Henry County hospital. She had been a resident of Knightstown all her life and was taken to the hospital only yesterday. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Lawrence Runyan of Lewisville; a brother, Maurice Newby of Lowell, Ind.; and the mother, Mrs. Charles Newby of Knightstown.  Funeral Services will be at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Wilson funeral home in Knightstown with the Rev. Ernest Addison officiating. Burial will be at Glencove cemetery.

Mrs. Ida Mae Newby

Widow of Charles Newby Dies at Knightstown.

DUNREITH, Oct. 24 - Mrs. Ida Mae Newby, 62, died at 9:50 o'clock this morning at her home in Knightstown of a heart attack. She was the widow of Charles Newby, who died two years ago, and had been in poor health for about three years. They had lived on a farm south of Spiceland.  Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Fern Runyan of east of Dunreith; a son, Morris Newby, of Lowell, Ind.; and four grandchildren.  Funeral arrangements have not been made. Burial is to be at Knightstown.

Heart Attack Proves Fatal

Mrs. Ida Mae Newby, age 65, died at her home on North Adams street shortly before the noon hour Tuesday morning, after suffering a heart attack. She had been in poor health for the past five years. Mrs. Newby was the daughter of John and Phoebe Trowbridge and was born November 5, 1873, southeast of Knightstown in Rush county, and was married to Charles Newby on May 27, 1892.  Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Fern Runyan, of east of Dunreith, and one son, Morris Newby, a teacher in the schools at Lowell, Ind.  She is also survived by four grandchildren, Janet and Lee [sic] Runyan, and Neil and Jackie Boyer.  Mr. Newby passed away May 7, 1937, and her duaghter Margaret died last April.  The funeral services were held from her late home on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, with Rev. E. A. Addison, pastor of the Christian Church, officiating. Burial was made in Glen Cove cemetery; O. M. Wilson, funeral director.

KNIGHTSTOWN, Oct. 25 - Final rites for Mrs. Ida Mae Newby, 62, who died at her home here Tuesday morning, will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the home. Burial will be at Glencove cemetery. O. M. Wilson funeral establishment will have charge of the services.

Dunreith Man Dies From Apoplexy at Son's Home.

     DUNREITH, Ind., May 8, -- Charles Newby, 73, well-known retired farmer who formerly lived north of here, died Friday afternoon at the home of a son, Maurice Newby, in Lowell, Ind., according to word received by friends.

     Mr. Newby's death was sudden, it was understood, although he had been in poor health for some time. A stroke of apoplexy was given as the cause of death.

     In addition to the son, survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Runyan of east of Dunreith, and Mrs. Charles Boyer of Knightstown. The body probably will be returned here for funeral services and burial but arrangements were not complete.
